News - MK's Top Talent Top 40 Finalists

Following on from the success of national shows like Britain's Got Talent, Milton Keynes Theatre launched a local competition in July 2009 called MK's Top Talent, to mark 10 years of the Milton Keynes Theatre.

From an initial 200 applicants, Francis and Nagore went through the audition process along with several other hopeful singers, dancers, comedians, and performers. They made it through the first audition using their earliest routine, 'Que Bueno Bailas', as the contestants were reduced to 90. The second audition a few days later saw Almas Latinas go through to become one of the top 40 finalists with their routine 'Mi Socio'.

There was then a month and a half break before the heats leading up to the final. Francis and Nagore worked very hard on a brand new show in between all their other regular activities and just managed to get it together in time for their heats on Thursday, 1st October, where they were up against 9 other finalists. Their show was a raving success and generally received good comments from the judges and approval from the audience.

However only, 2 acts could go through to the final the following saturday, and as they stood in the lineup of 10 acts with flashing spotlights and predictable tense elimination music, the hosts for the evening went about the business of identifying the acts that wouldn't be making it through to the finals. One act was asked to leave, and then another, and then another, until there were 3 acts left including a rapper, a singer and Almas Latinas. The tension stepped up a level and came to an abrupt end as it was announced that Almas Latinas would not be going through.

It was the end of the road, but a wonderful experience and the opportunity to perform in the Milton Keynes Theatre and introduce a new crowd to the world of salsa.
